Rendezvous at the Gardens / Rendez-vous aux jardins

In the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, the Ministry of Culture of the French Republic invited the interested countries to participate in the Rendezvous at the Gardens / Rendez-vous aux jardins, held every first weekend in June since 2003. This is when in the entire France private and public gardens and parks and promenades are open to the public, and educational and promotional events are being organised, aimed at children as well as wider audience.

This initiative intends to encourage citizens to pay more attention to the space around them and the tight connection between people and nature, to enjoy the beauty of designed spaces in order to be – especially the children and the young – more educated on the importance of the protection and safeguarding of this type of heritage. Also highlighted is the need for expert education and transfer of knowledge.

Rendezvous at the Gardens / Rendez-vous aux jardins – 2018

The Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia joined the French initiative by including four parks/promenades into the programme: Promenade of villa Angiolina in Opatija, Promenade of the sanatorium in Lipik, Promenade in Novi Dvori in Zaprešić and Sculpture park in the neighbourhood of Caprag in Sisak, created within the Ironworks Sisak artistic colony. The programme was organised by the conservation departments in Rijeka, Požega, Zagreb and Sisak in collaboration with various partners. In this way, from 1 until 3 June 2018, these parks/promenades became a part of the joint event that gathered more than 3000 gardens in Europe under the slogan Europe of Gardens.
