In the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, the Ministry of Culture of the French Republic invited the interested countries to participate in the
Rendezvous at the Gardens / Rendez-vous aux jardins, held every first weekend in June since 2003. This is when in the entire France private and public gardens and parks and promenades are open to the public, and educational and promotional events are being organised, aimed at children as well as wider audience.
This initiative intends to encourage citizens to pay more attention to the space around them and the tight connection between people and nature, to enjoy the beauty of designed spaces in order to be - especially the children and the young - more educated on the importance of the protection and safeguarding of this type of heritage. Also highlighted is the need for expert education and transfer of knowledge.
